Description

The Blue Peacock Cichlid (Aulonocara sp.) is one of the most visually striking cichlids, celebrated for its brilliant electric blue coloration and elegant fin display. Native to Lake Malawi in Africa, this species is popular among aquarists for its beauty, relatively peaceful temperament, and engaging behavior.

Blue Peacock Cichlids are best kept in well-decorated African cichlid tanks with rocky formations and hiding spots. While generally peaceful, males may display territorial behavior, especially during breeding, so it’s recommended to keep them with other compatible species and provide adequate space.

Care Guide:

  • Temperature: 24–28°C

  • pH: 7.8–8.6

  • Tank Size: Minimum 55 gallons

  • Diet: High-quality cichlid pellets, frozen or live foods (brine shrimp, bloodworms)

  • Behavior: Semi-aggressive, territorial males, peaceful with other peacocks if well-spaced

  • Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder; female carries eggs in mouth until fry are free-swimming
