Pink gaint gourami

The Pink Giant Gourami is a large, striking freshwater fish known for its soft pink or pale white coloration and impressive size. It is an albino or leucistic variant of the Giant Gourami (Osphronemus goramy), which is native to Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

This species is a favorite among public aquariums and large private collectors due to its intelligence, personality, and unique appearance.

🔍 Appearance:

• Color: Soft pink, pale white, or light peach with translucent or red-tinted fins and eyes (due to albinism).

• Body Shape: Oval, deep-bodied with a pronounced forehead in adults.

• Fins: Broad and rounded dorsal and anal fins; pectoral fins are long and flowing.

• Size: Can grow up to 50–70 cm (20–28 inches) in length in captivity; even larger in the wild.

• Lips: Thick, fleshy lips that grow more prominent with age.

• Sex Differences:

  • Male: Longer, more pointed dorsal fins; thicker lips and nuchal hump (forehead bump).

  • Female: More rounded body and fins.

🌊 Habitat & Behavior:

• Natural Habitat: Slow-moving rivers, swamps, and lakes.

• Behavior: Generally peaceful but territorial with age, especially in confined spaces.

• Personality: Intelligent, can recognize owners and may even beg for food like a pet.

• Labyrinth Organ: Can breathe surface air, allowing survival in low-oxygen environments.

🍽️ Diet:

• Omnivorous: Eats vegetables, pellets, fruits, and protein sources like shrimp, insects, and even small fish.

• Enjoys leafy greens, cucumber, lettuce, and floating pellets.

• Tank Size: Minimum 500–1000 liters (for adults).

• Water Temperature: 24–30°C (75–86°F)

• pH Range: 6.5–8.0

• Filtration: Strong filtration needed due to large bioload.

• Setup: Large open swimming space, with driftwood or sturdy décor (no sharp edges).

• Best kept alone or with other large, peaceful fish (like Pacu or Arowana).

• Juveniles are peaceful but may become aggressive with age.

• Long-lived—can live 15–20 years in good conditions.
